The cost of such watches were as little as Rs. 8/- for an 8-day winding clock, Rs. 2/-for a pocket watch, and Rs. 3/- for a wrist watch. And mind you, all these were imported.
That's how the present sprawling office building of it's own at No. 32 Colootola St. (now Maulana Shaukat Ali St.) where it moved to, came to be known as "Ghari Wali Kothi," as it featured on the facade of the building real clock dials and hands, the time shown of other countries corresponding to midday in India while a real clock showed the exact time. Interestingly, there used to exist more than one time in different parts of India, but the railway time was same all over.
As the years rolled by, the two World Wars changed the entire scenario.
